A felony is the most serious criminal offense with which an individual or corporation may be charged. In the State of Florida felonies are classified into: third degree felonies, second degree felonies, first degree felonies, and life or capital felonies. The degree of the felony is defined by the Florida Statutes.

Felonies dealing with violence, such as battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, murder, are considered more serious and generally carry greater penalties.

Felonies dealing with property, such as criminal mischief causing property damage in excess of $1,000.00, burglary, theft, possession of cocaine or other drugs, are considered less serious and therefore generally carry lesser penalties.

If you have been charged with a felony, your attorney will advise you how best to address the situation, what options you might have, and what alternate penalties might be available to you.

Every case and situation is unique. Your attorney will evaluate your individual situation and advise you how best to proceed regarding these and other issues.
